1. The origins of what became the Lancashire Fusiliers began with a commission from William of Orange on the 20th November 1688 to Sir Robert Peyton to form a Regiment and become its first Colonel. In 1769 the Colonel of the regiment was Bernard Hale from the 3rd Foot Guards, who in 1773 was appointed lieut.-governor of the Royal Hospital at Chelsea by King George III Its first territorial title was The East Devonshire Regiment of Foot, 20th of Foot before becoming the Lancashire fusiliers 2. The text you will be referring to has been taken from the records dating back to the early 18th century and the spelling and grammar has been copied as written. 3. When soldiers were in receipt of a pension they could be out-pensioners or in-pensioners of the Royal Chelsea Hospital, the latter are the subject of these records. 4. The original book, that this data has been taken from, is currently held in the Fusiliers Museum in Bury, Lancashire. The inscription in the book states :- |
